Money matters within families have always been a sensitive topic — especially when it involves future planning.
Recently, a Malaysian student expressed her deep frustration online, calling out her parents for not saving a single cent for her education despite earning a five-figure salary.

Parents blamed outdated mindset
In a post anonymously shared by @meinmokhtar, the student didn’t hold back her disappointment.
She claimed that her parents, despite being financially capable, never made any effort to plan ahead for her studies.
I hate my parents’ financial decisions. They’re unbelievably terrible. Their excuse? Because their own parents didn’t do that for them.”
She questioned why children should be forced to endure the same struggles, especially when the parents are in a much better position now compared to before.

Netizens speak out
The post quickly went viral, prompting a wave of comments from fellow Malaysians.
‘Just want to ask parents, how come there’s no savings for your child? Did you use up your child’s duit raya every year?’

‘But isn’t education a parent’s responsibility? I’m just asking because there are so many different opinions here.’

However, there were also those who saw the situation differently. One comment questioned whether children would even repay their parents’ sacrifices later in life:
‘If they saved up for your education, is there any guarantee you’d take care of them when they’re old? Who knows, maybe you’d just send them to a nursing home.’
