For many fresh graduates, a degree is supposed to be the big ticket that opens the door to their dream career.
But reality often comes with a plot twist.
A Malaysian woman recently sparked a conversation online after sharing how her colleague felt deflated and disappointed.
Her colleague had ended up working in a job completely unrelated to her degree despite spending a significant amount of money on her convocation ceremony.

“I paid so much for convocation but I am not even in my field”
The story began when the woman and her colleague started talking about the costs of attending their graduation ceremony.
In the middle of their chat, her colleague suddenly revealed how heartbreaking it felt to realise her degree had not helped her land a job in her field.
“Imagine spending so much for your convocation, only to not work in the area you studied for,” she reportedly said.
The woman emphasised that these were her colleague’s words, not hers, but the sentiment still hit hard.
Many relate to her struggle

According to mStar, some said they had never imagined that entering the workforce would be so difficult, especially when trying to find a job that matched their qualifications.
One user wrote that she spent thousands on her convocation while being unemployed for almost a year.
During that period, she said she could only pray and hope she would eventually land her dream job.
