Working as an air steward/stewardess can be a fulfilling and rewarding experience, but it also comes with its fair share of headaches such as dealing with demanding or unruly passengers.
A cabin crew member recently took to social media to rant her frustrations at those who have the expectation that the cabin crew are obliged to help put their luggage into the overhead compartment, which has since sparked a debate.

‘We cabin crew are not there to lift your bag!’
In a now-viral Threads post, the OP directed her annoyance towards passengers who carry heavy luggage but rely on the cabin crew to put the luggage into the overhead compartment.
“If you travel and have a hand carry bag , make sure when you get on the plane, you will be able to lift your OWN bag and put it in the overhead compartment.
We cabin crew are not there to lift your bag ya. Don’t give excuses such as ‘My back hurts’ or ‘My bag is heavy.’ So you think if you cannot lift your bag I can lift it?”

Debate ensues
In the comment section, netizens chimed in and expressed their opinions on the OP’s mini rant.
Some sided with the OP, saying that such passengers were either lazy or simply made up stories so that they don’t have to handle their luggage themselves.
‘Definitely just making up stories. Confirm can lift (their luggage), they just don’t wanna lift.’

‘If you’re not capable of lifting (your luggage), check in please. No money to check in? Then don’t fly. As simple as that.’

On the other hand, some urged for grace and consideration to be shown, with them arguing that some passengers do suffer from back issues.
Another added that some disabilities may not be visible to the naked eye, thus making it necessary for cabin crew to step in and help.
