A single mother from Terengganu was left devastated after falling victim to a so-called ‘bomoh’ (traditional healer).
She was convinced to be cursed and tricked into handing over RM103,000, gold jewellery, and even explicit videos as part of a so-called “spiritual healing” ritual.
It all started with a chat on a dating app
According to Sin Chew Daily, Rompin District Police Chief Superintendent Sharif Shai Sharif Mondoi stated that the 51-year-old woman, a tailor with three children, met the man on the Omi dating app and later continued chatting via Telegram.
The man claimed she was the victim of black magic and offered to help “cure” her. He told her to hold an egg and some salt in her room, a step that supposedly began the ritual.
Feeling unsettled and believing his words, she then revealed her gold jewellery to him.
On September 3, she sold four gold bracelets worth RM71,350 and was instructed to leave the cash, together with a gold necklace weighing 80 grams, under a tree near a drain in Bukit Serok, Kota Bahagia.
The bomoh told her the money would “reappear” in a few days or weeks, as long as she followed his instructions.
More bizarre request
The suspect didn’t stop there.
He allegedly told the woman she also needed to submit videos of her having sex, masturbating, and nude photos, along with a man’s semen sample, as part of the ritual.
On September 4 at 5:30 a.m., she sent him the explicit videos and photos, hoping it would help lift the curse.
The next morning, when she went back to the spot where she had left the money and jewellery, everything was gone.
Feeling cheated, the woman lodged a police report at Kota Bahagia Police Station. Authorities confirmed the total loss amounted to RM103,000 and are investigating the case under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating.
This is clearly a ‘bomoh scammer’ case,” police said.
