Malaysian singer and influencer Haoren has issued a public apology after a clip of him filming his friends during the national anthem at the ‘8TV CUCKOO Starfluencer Awards 2025’ went viral.
The video, which showed Haoren playfully recording his friends while “Negaraku” played, drew criticism online for being disrespectful.
Acknowledged it was inappropriate
In a Facebook statement posted yesterday (Aug 10), Haoren admitted the act was “inappropriate in both occasion and etiquette” and said he should have sung the anthem with “utmost solemnity” instead.
I deeply regret the discomfort that my immature behaviour caused the public,” he wrote.
The singer explained that he understands the national anthem is not only a symbol of Malaysia, but also carries deep historical and emotional meaning for all citizens.

Promised to do better
Haoren said he has “deeply reflected” on the incident and promised to conduct himself with greater care at all formal and public events moving forward.
“I sincerely thank the public for their reminders and understanding. Once again, I offer my sincerest apologies to all my friends who care about me for the inconvenience this incident has caused,” he added.
