Struggling with high electricity bills? One Malaysian woman may have found a surprisingly simple trick — and it’s going viral online.
A woman named Ailin Suhaini recently took to Threads to share how she managed to slash RM100 off her electricity bill in just one month.
Unplugging water filter every night
Her method? She unplugs her water filter every night before bed.
I started switching off the water filter at 11pm and only turning it back on at 12pm the next day,” she wrote.
“The following month, my electricity bill dropped by RM100 — I was shocked!”

Netizens’ reaction
Ailin’s effortless “lazy girl energy-saving hack” quickly caught the attention of netizens, sparking discussions and more energy-saving tips from others online.
“Same here. This month I started turning off the water filter at night and turning it back on at 9am. I also switch off the TV plug and set the aircond timer from 8pm to 5am. My bill usually comes to RM250, but today it’s only RM90 — and there are still 4 more days before the final bill. I’m so happy because I managed to save!”

“Some say to unplug the device — meaning if you’re not using the switch or plug, just remove it from the socket.”

“They said to unplug everything, so I’ve been unplugging stuff all over the place — and yeah, the bill is a bit lower than before. At night I usually keep the lights off, just the aircond and fan on. But I haven’t tried unplugging the water filter at night yet. Might give it a try tonight.”
