A Malaysian user on social media platform Threads has sparked debate after sharing that she prefers to travel abroad due to the rising cost of domestic tourism in Malaysia.
Posting under the username @di_kasimova, the user expressed her love for the country’s landscapes and beautiful islands, but revealed she has chosen Vietnam as her vacation destination this year.
3D2N package costs up to RM3,000
The reason is simple — travelling in Malaysia has become too expensive. A 3D2N package to Redang Island for two people costs RM3,000, and it’s not even a four-star hotel,” she wrote.
She compared it with travel packages to Da Nang, Vietnam, where the same amount of money could cover a week-long holiday with better service and accommodation.

Even popular local destinations like Langkawi weren’t spared from her criticism. She noted that while Langkawi might be slightly more affordable in terms of general travel expenses, good-quality accommodation quickly drives up the cost.

Netizens’ reaction
The post has since gone viral, drawing mixed reactions from netizens — some agreeing with her perspective, while others defended the value of local travel experiences.

Another netizen, who claims to be a hotel owner in Redang, chimed in to share his perspective — saying it’s actually not that expensive.
