One of the most common challenges married couples face is maintaining good ties with each other’s parents, where it can sometimes either make or break the relationship.
A woman was left wondering whether she was to blame for the crumbling of her marriage due to her refusal to extend financial aid to her in-laws and focus on saving up for the family instead.
Mama’s boy?
In the anonymous confession, the woman said her marriage was already showing cracks even though it looked like a happy one on the surface.

“My husband is a very filial son and will always puts his parents first. Whenever they face financial difficulties, he would sometimes give them money without discussing with me beforehand.
“It’s not that I’m unwilling to help his parents, but the issue is that we’ve never been financially comfortable. His income is unstable, we don’t own a house yet, and we have three children to support.
“Whenever he hands money to his parents behind my back, I become extremely anxious and worry about how we’re going to get by as I’m a full-time homemaker with no income.”

The woman added that her husband would often be expected by his parents to foot the bill whenever their house has a leaking roof, broken appliances, or needs new furniture.
Arguments
Due to these simmering tensions, the woman said she fought with her husband many times over money as he felt she never truly understood his position.
“He believes he can’t ignore his parents when they’re in need, and he also thinks he has worked hard all these years to provide for our family.
On one hand, I can’t accept that he constantly prioritises his family over our own, but sometimes I feel sorry for him for having to shoulder so much pressure alone,” she wrote.

Over time, their fights worsened and it even turned violent, with the woman claiming that her husband physically assaulted her while she was pregnant.
However, she couldn’t help but to wonder whether she was partially to blame for pushing him to the edge and cause him to act this way.
‘I don’t love you anymore’
Things eventually came to a breaking point when the woman’s husband confessed to her that he no longer had feelings for her and suggested that they separate amicably.
From that moment on, the woman said she has been blaming herself non-stop for how things turned out.
If I had started working earlier and helped support the family’s finances, would our marriage have ended up like this?
“I honestly don’t know what to do. Should I let the marriage go or first change myself, find a job, help share the financial burden, and do everything I can to save this marriage?” she asked.
