M’sian Retail Worker Reveals RM10K Monthly Salary After Being Told Office Job Is ‘Better’

“No future” they said. Her bank account says otherwise.
Retail jobs are often seen as having little long term prospects.

Recently, a Malaysian retail worker on Threads clapped back after being told an office job was “better”, revealing that she earns a consistent RM10,000 a month.

Started working right after school

In her post, she shared that she entered the workforce straight after finishing school and has remained in retail ever since.

Despite years of experience, she said people still tend to look down on mall jobs.

“People always think there is no future,” she wrote.

But for her, things have worked out well.

She explained that one of the main reasons she stays in retail is because her income is stable.

Her RM10,000 monthly salary does not fluctuate much, which gives her financial security.

“Alhamdulillah. So far okay,” she shared.

However, she admitted that the physical demands of the job are becoming more noticeable as she gets older.

“As I age, my legs cannot stand too long anymore. They get sore,” she wrote, referring to the long hours spent on her feet.

Told to leave retail for a RM3K office job

She said she decided to highlight her salary after an office worker recently belittled her job and encouraged her to switch careers.

According to her, the woman questioned what the point was of “standing and waiting for people to walk in” at a mall, and claimed that her office paid better.

The salary mentioned was RM3,000 per month.

“I almost choked,” she wrote, saying she was shocked by the comment.
