M’sian Policeman Left With Memory Loss After Getting Hit By Mat Rempit

Praying for his recovery.
Illegal racers, commonly known as mat rempits, have long been a scourge in Malaysian society due their antics of performing dangerous stunts on the road or leaving others maimed while doing so.

A traffic police officer is now experiencing signs of memory loss after a mat rempit crashed into him more than a month ago.

During the incident, the mat rempit aged 17 years old rammed into the police officer at 2am while driving against the flow of traffic during the ‘Samseng Jalanan’ operation.

As a result, both of them suffered injuries to their head and legs and were admitted to the Tuanku Jaafar Hospital for treatment.

While the police officer was discharged on Aug 16, he is currently struggling from memory loss and has yet to resume his duties, according to Negeri Sembilan Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief, Superintendent Muhammad Zaki Ramat.

Fortunately, his condition is improving, but we are concerned because he speaks little and struggles with remembering things.

“However, the JSPT Negeri Sembilan team, along with colleagues from the District Police Headquarters and friends, frequently visit him to offer support and assistance. Let us all pray for his full recovery,” he said as quoted by NST.

As for the teenage mat rempit, Muhammad Zaki said he’s currently being probed under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 and is expected to be charged in court along with his parents once investigations are complete.
