In a bid to ensure the well-being of its members, the Kuala Lumpur police force is emphasising the importance of maintaining good health, particularly in terms of weight management.
The call comes from Datuk Allaudeen Abdul Majid, the Chief of Police in Kuala Lumpur, who highlights the need for officers to maintain a healthy body mass index (BMI) for optimal performance in their duties.
Acknowledging that a small percentage of the force, roughly two to three percent of the 10,000-strong workforce, is grappling with weight-related issues, Allaudeen underscores the demanding nature of police work.
Coping with cop Life: Why fitness matters

He stresses that one effective way to cope with the pressures and challenges inherent in law enforcement is by prioritising physical fitness and overall health, reported Harian Metro.
“The police duty is challenging, and one way to cope with pressure and challenges is by maintaining good physical health, being ‘fit’ and energetic.
“I hope they are disease-free and at the same time look smart when wearing uniforms,” he said when met after the Monthly Assembly of the Kuala Lumpur Contingent Police Headquarters (IPK) here today.
‘As soon as possible’ approach
He further elaborated that while there isn’t a specific timeline in place for officers to adhere to regarding their health, the force is adopting a proactive “as soon as possible” approach to address any health concerns among its ranks.

Highlighting the importance of leadership in fostering a culture of health and accountability, Allaudeen disclosed plans for surprise visits by top police officials, including the Inspector-General of Police, to various District Police Headquarters (IPD).
This initiative aims not only to monitor officers’ performance but also to demonstrate solidarity and support for their well-being.
