A woman in her 60s accidentally rammed her car into a lottery shop in Bukit Mertajam after reportedly stepping on the accelerator instead of the brake.
The incident not only shocked onlookers but also sent bettors into a frenzy over the vehicle’s license plate number, which quickly became a hot pick and got sold out within two hours at betting counters.
According to China Press, the accident occurred around 11.10 am today (Mar 26) in front of a lottery outlet at Taman Desa Damai.
The woman, believed to be attempting to park in front of the shop, lost control of the car and crashed into the front of the outlet, destroying part of its metal grille. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Eyewitnesses said that the car struck one side of the shop’s wall, near a plastic chair where customers often rest after placing their bets.
Number ‘1166’ becomes red-hot pick
Following the crash, the vehicle’s license plate number “1166” gained immediate attention after a video of the incident circulated on social media.
The number became a “lucky pick” among lottery enthusiasts and was sold out within just over two hours. Some even placed bets on the shop’s address number, hoping for a stroke of luck.
Customers who arrived much later hoping to bet on the number were turned away as it had already reached its betting limit.
Staff members also said they had heard that other lottery outlets had stopped accepting bets involving the same number due to overwhelming demand.
It is understood that the woman contacted her daughter after the incident, who later arrived to help send the car to a nearby workshop.
The lottery outlet has reportedly been operating at its current location for several years after relocating from another spot on the same street.
