In the latest global passport power rankings, Malaysia’s passport has experienced a slight slip, landing at 12th place on the Henley Passport Index.
This marks a drop from last year’s 11th position and a notable decline from its peak ranking of 8th place back in 2014, as reported by NST.
Despite this setback, Malaysian passport holders still enjoy the privilege of visa-free travel to an impressive 182 destinations out of 227 worldwide.
Singapore Retains Top Spot in Passport Power
Holding steady at the top of the rankings is Singapore, with its passport retaining the coveted number one spot.
Singaporean citizens benefit from visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to a remarkable 195 destinations, underscoring the strength and reach of the city-state’s passport.
The Henley Passport Index, a respected authority in assessing global mobility, evaluates 199 passports and 227 travel destinations.
This index draws on comprehensive data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), reflects the evolving landscape of visa-free travel.
This monthly-updated index provides a snapshot of global mobility, highlighting the ease of travel afforded by different passports.
For nearly two decades, the Henley Passport Index has served as the benchmark for assessing passport strength and global travel freedom.
