M’sian Passengers Trek Through Bushes After KTMB Breaks Down For 3 Hours Between Bangi & Serdang

No one should have to go through this.
You expect your train to stop at a platform, not in the middle of a jungle.

But for one unlucky commuter, that’s exactly what happened. Dozens of passengers were left stranded in the middle of the tracks and told to disembark into the bushes and climb their way back to civilisation.

The ordeal was captured in a TikTok video posted by @horajunie, who was on a Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) train heading from Pulau Sebang to Batu Caves.

What was meant to be a regular ride took a turn for the worse when the train suddenly stopped between Bangi and Serdang stations due to a fallen tree.

The unexpected obstruction cut off the power supply, disabling the train’s systems and leaving passengers stuck for three long hours.

Exit strategy: into the bushes

With no solution in sight, KTMB made a decision that caught passengers off guard. They were instructed to get off the train and walk through the surrounding bushy area.

Instead of arriving at a proper platform, commuters found themselves lining up with their belongings, carefully navigating a steep and muddy slope with no clear pathway.

Self-development boot camp

Still, even in the chaos, @horajunie managed to find humour in the situation.

She joked that it felt like she was going through a self-development boot camp or doing jungle trekking, adding that some passengers in front of her made the climb look effortless despite dragging both a suitcase and a backpack.

I don’t know what kind of superhuman strength the person in front had,” she said in the video.

Not everyone found it funny

But not all passengers had it easy. She also shared her sympathy for elderly passengers who struggled with the uneven terrain.

There were shops nearby, but it was still such a pity to be forced to climb down that way,” she remarked, clearly concerned about the lack of safer alternatives.

‘KTMB has had issues since I was studying’

After the video went viral, many Malaysians flooded the comments section with a mix of jokes and serious complaints about KTMB’s repeated service issues.

“Since when did KTMB start leadership camps?” one user quipped.

Another lamented, “KTMB has had issues since I was studying, then working, and now even waiting for the afterlife. But we’ve got no other options.”

Others were quick to ask whether KTMB would offer compensation or refunds for the disruption, but @horajunie confirmed that no such efforts were made by the rail operator.

A recurring problem that needs attention

This incident isn’t an isolated case. In fact, it has reignited long-standing concerns over the reliability of Malaysia’s public rail services.

Many online users voiced their hopes for alternatives, with repeated calls for the completion of the LRT3 line, which could help ease the burden for commuters, especially those in areas underserved by current rail systems.

Until then, passengers like @horajunie may just have to brace themselves. Not just for delays, but for the possibility that their next train ride might end with a trek through nature.
