A red Perodua Myvi driver allegedly tried to escape paying toll fees, only to be confronted moments later by the driver who recorded the entire incident on a dashcam.
The viral clip showed the Myvi tailgating another car as both vehicles passed through a toll booth.
By sticking close enough, the Myvi appears to have passed the toll gate without having to make payment. Seconds later, the Myvi accelerates and overtakes the front vehicle, driving off quickly.
But the driver in front of it refused let it slide.
Chased down and confronted at traffic light
Dashcam footage showed the other driver following the Myvi and eventually catching up to it at a traffic light underneath a highway bridge.
There, the driver rolled down his window to confront the driver and asked why he allegedly attempted to skip paying toll.
At first, the Myvi driver appears to deny wrongdoing. However, after being told that the entire incident was captured on dashcam, he fell silent and drove off once the light turned green.
After the video went viral, many social media users expressed disbelief that someone would risk legal trouble just to save a small toll payment.
Some also pointed out that toll evasion is not as easy as it seems, with one saying modern toll plazas in Malaysia are equipped with high definition cameras and automatic number plate recognition systems.
Thus, even if a driver tailgates another car closely, the system can still record the vehicle plate number. Some can even capture the driver’s face.
The commenter added that toll operators keep full entry and exit records. Reports are made to police periodically and summons letters can be issued to the vehicle owner later.
