Many Malaysians talk about the importance of having good neighbours, but for one mother of six, she found out just how priceless it can be after a terrifying accident at home.
A normal morning turned into an emergency
Yesterday morning (Aug 19), Elwani, a housewife living in a residential area, was home alone with her 3-month-old baby and 5-year-old child while her husband was at work and her other children were in school.
While preparing food in the kitchen, she accidentally spilled hot water on her hands and feet.
Sharing it on her Threads account, the mother said the pain was so unbearable that she screamed.
Her cries were heard by her next-door neighbour, an elderly Indian “auntie” who immediately rushed into her home without hesitation.

Neighbour stepped in like family
Seeing Elwani in pain, the neighbour quickly picked up her baby and handed the child to her husband to take care of.
She then brought Elwani, along with her 5-year-old, straight to the nearest clinic for treatment.
Not only did she accompany her throughout the ordeal, but she also paid for the medical bill and even bought drinks for the child while waiting.
It felt like being helped by my own family, even though we’re not related by blood,” Elwani shared.
Lunch was taken care of too
By the time they returned home, it was already past 1pm and Elwani started worrying about her older children coming back from school with no food prepared.

To her surprise, her neighbour had already taken care of it. She cooked lunch at Elwani’s house using ingredients from the fridge, after asking permission, and told her to rest.
That was the moment when Elwani couldn’t hold back her tears.
How fortunate I am to be blessed with such a good neighbour, who sincerely helps without caring about race or religion,” she wrote in her Threads post.
‘She has always been kind to me’
Speaking exclusively to WeirdKaya, Elwani expressed her gratitude and shared that this wasn’t the first time her neighbour showed kindness.
“She has always been good to me and my children. She often shares food with us, usually food bought from outside, and she’s careful about halal and haram too. She always calls me adik, while I call her auntie,” she said.
Later that evening, when her husband came home, he noticed the food tasted “different” and asked what happened.
After hearing the full story, he hugged his wife and apologised, even though he had done nothing wrong.
For Elwani, the entire incident became a lesson about how neighbours can sometimes become family in moments of need.
I really want to thank my neighbour who has always been kind to me and my children. May Allah repay her kindness with many blessings,” she said.
