M’sian Motorcyclist Nearly Loses Both Eyes After Hitting Glass-Coated Kite String In Miri

A close call.
A man in Miri, Sarawak, narrowly escaped a life-threatening injury after a kite string coated with glass struck his face while he was riding his motorcycle.

The incident reportedly happened along the Easy Go Pujut Bypass area, according to a Facebook post by Amazing Sarawak.

Close call with serious injuries

The post claimed the man was almost injured in both eyes when the glass-coated string hit him. He sustained cuts to his face and was later taken to the hospital for treatment.

Images shared on social media showed the man bleeding at the scene and later lying in a hospital bed to recover from his injuries.

Commonly known as fighter kites, kites that use strings coated with glass or other sharp materials are ubiquitous in Asia and is often used to cut down opponents’ kites during competitions.

However, using such strings in a public setting is highly discouraged as it poses a huge danger to passersby who may get injured if they’re not aware of their surroundings.

The incident has once again sparked debates online, with many expressing concern over the lack of regulation for kite-flying activities involving hazardous materials.
