Raising teenagers is never easy. But for one Malaysian mother, the challenge has recently become emotionally draining, especially as her child prepares to sit for SPM this year.
According to mstar, the mother revealed that her teenage child has suddenly started isolating themselves, locking the bedroom door for hours without speaking to anyone.
She wrote that her child returned home around 1.30pm one afternoon, went straight to the bedroom without eating, and stayed inside until 8pm.
During that time, the family waited downstairs, worried, hoping the teen would come out for a meal.
“We just sat downstairs waiting for them to eat,” she shared.
When the mother later checked on the room, she found it dark. Her child had not prayed, had not showered, and had missed an online tuition class scheduled for 8pm.
The mother admitted that she felt deeply sad and anxious over the sudden change in behaviour, especially knowing her child is currently in an important academic phase that could shape their future.
She also expressed feeling emotionally and mentally tired, saying that all her efforts and sacrifices to see her child succeed felt unappreciated.
“I’m tired of waiting. Tired of thinking. Tired of providing everything. But my child doesn’t seem to understand responsibility or appreciate it,” she wrote.
The post quickly drew attention online, with many netizens sympathising with the mother. Several parents shared that they had gone through similar struggles raising teenagers, especially during major exam periods.
Many encouraged her to try open communication with her child to understand what might be causing the behavioural changes.
Others suggested seeking support from teachers, school counsellors, or professionals if needed.
Most agreed on one thing, parenting a teenager comes with emotional challenges, and no parent should feel alone in facing them.
As one commenter put it, “Sometimes, teenagers are fighting battles we can’t see. The best we can do is stay patient and keep the door open for them.”
