What started as an ordinary red light stop in Pasir Gudang turned into a roadside delivery in the rain.
A viral video from Pasir Gudang shows several women jumping into action to help a mother give birth on the roadside, in the rain, after she went into labour while waiting at a traffic light.
‘Thought it was an accident, but it was the opposite’
The OP who helped in the delivery, wrote in her caption: “I, along with my Indian sister and others, helped celebrate the birth of a baby on the roadside of Taman Bukit Dahlia, Pasir Gudang, in the rain. THANK YOU ALL…for giving towels, headscarves, everyone.”
She added that the video was recorded because passersby initially thought it was an accident, but it was actually the opposite.
Speaking exclusively to WeirdKaya, the OP said the incident happened on Sunday (Aug 10) at a four-way junction along the main road in Taman Bukit Dahlia, Pasir Gudang.
The mother had been riding on the back of a motorcycle with her husband when, while waiting at the red light, she suddenly got down and lay on the ground due to labour pains.
According to the OP, the first person to help was a woman in a black shirt, who sat behind the mother’s head to comfort her, unsure of what to do next in that moment.
She called out to others who were waiting in their cars and on motorcycles, but nobody came to help not even the women, who simply shook their heads saying no.
Indian woman stopped on the way to the temple to help
An Indian woman, who happened to be passing by on her way to the temple, stopped to assist. By then, the mother was already pushing.
Her husband shouted for more people to help. The OP, who was in her car nearby, rolled down her window to ask what was happening, and was told to help the mother.
When she got down, she saw the baby was already halfway out.
The Indian lady gently pulled the baby a little, and I helped until the baby came out completely,” she said.
Used a food deliver rider’s shoelace
The OP held the baby as the umbilical cord was still attached and the placenta had not yet come out. The mother was still in pain and pushed again, releasing more blood before finally feeling relieved.
Fearing the mother might collapse, they quickly got her a sweet drink to keep her awake.
Everyone sprang into action, some rushed to control traffic, while others placed umbrellas around the mother and her newborn, creating a small shelter as the side of the road.
With no scissors on hand and the cord still attached, they had to think fast. In the middle of the rain and chaos, a food delivery rider’s shoelace became their lifeline, tied tightly before the cord was cut.
Ambulance came 30 minutes later
By the time the ambulance finally arrived, 30 minutes after the baby was born on the roadside, the strangers who had rushed in to help had already done everything they could.
None of them had known each other before that day, yet in that moment, they moved as one.
In an update, the OP shared that the mother later contacted her from the hospital, where she is still undergoing further check-ups. She has yet to see her newborn as they remain separated, but the baby is doing well.
