A mother’s instinct is powerful, even if she can’t speak our language.
That’s exactly what a group of Malaysian men discovered when a stray cat wouldn’t stop meowing and pacing around a drain, clearly distressed.
Her behaviour wasn’t random, it was a desperate attempt to get someone’s attention. As it turns out, her fluffy white kitten had fallen in and couldn’t climb back out.
The moment was captured in a now-viral TikTok video posted by @yourjiranstory, where the group of friends can be seen jumping into action to help the feline family.
It all started with a strange meow
According to Shah Iskandar, the man behind the video, the mother cat’s odd and persistent actions were what tipped them off.
“She kept showing us the same drain over and over,” he wrote in the caption. “Now it makes sense.”
Curious, they decided to follow her lead and sure enough, when they looked inside, they found the kitten stuck in a narrow space inside the drain.
Thankfully, there was no water inside, but the kitten couldn’t get out on its own.
No hesitation, just help
Realising the urgency, one of the men quickly climbed into the drain. He gently picked up the kitten and brought it back to safety, placing it right into the arms (or paws) of its anxious mother.
But what many didn’t see was what happened before the rescue clip was recorded.
Speaking to WeirdKaya, Shah shared a more complete picture of the situation.
The mama cat kept trying to get our attention, like she was asking us to follow her. When we got to the spot, the kitten was actually deeper inside the drain. So we tried coaxing it to come closer, then finally managed to get it out.”
A small act, a big reminder
The rescue may have only taken minutes, but the message behind it is timeless. Shah hopes that more people will pay attention to animals in distress.
“Try to read the signs. Not every cat that comes to you is asking for food, sometimes they’re really trying to tell you something.
“We’re not experts, but we just did what we could. Always be kind to animals. They don’t have voices like we do, but they still feel fear and pain.”
What stood out most to Shah was how the mother cat responded after the rescue.
She genuinely looked thankful especially towards Amer, the one who climbed down to get her baby.”

In the comment section, netizens couldn’t stop praising the group’s quick thinking and compassion. Many sent heartfelt blessings their way.

Others also pointed out the mother cat’s care despite being a stray.
“Her kitten is so white and fluffy! The mama may look rough, but she really knows how to take care of her baby,” said another.
