Malaysian men are passing away at a faster rate compared to women.
In a recent report released by the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM), it’s been revealed that men have a higher death rate than women in the second quarter (Q2) of 2024.

Gender Disparities in Mortality Rates
According to the data shared on their Facebook, reportedly a total of 48,460 deaths were recorded during this period, marking a 5.4% decrease compared to the same quarter in 2023, which saw 51,234 deaths.
In the statement, Chief Statistician, Datuk Seri Dr. Mohd. Uzir Mahidin, highlighted the significant difference between male and female mortality rates.
“A total of 27,510 male deaths were recorded, while the number of female deaths stood at 20,950,” he reported.
This results in a gender ratio of 131 male deaths for every 100 female deaths.

Selangor Tops the Chart, Putrajaya at the Bottom
Furthermore, breaking down the numbers by state, Selangor topped the list with the highest mortality rate, recording 7,459 deaths.
Following closely were Johor with 6,205 deaths and Perak with 5,087 deaths.

On the other end of the spectrum, the Federal Territory of Putrajaya reported the lowest number of deaths, with just 65 cases recorded during this period.
