Many can only dream of striking it rich when it comes to the lottery, and when they do, it turns them into multimillionaires overnight.
A local man in his 30s could hardly believe his luck when he discovered he had won a staggering amount of money thanks to a set of numbers he decided to cobble together and place a bet on it.

According to China Press, the jackpot in question was the Da Ma Cai 1+3D Jackpot, which reached a historic high of over RM37 million.
On May 3, the record-breaking jackpot prize was split among 11 winners, seeing a total of RM35,287,699.60 from Jackpot 1 being shared out. Coincidentally, the RM1,854,083 Jackpot 2 was also won on the same day.
It was also revealed that the man, who hailed from Selangor, was the biggest winner of the draw, where he walked away with over RM19 million with the combination ‘0725’ and ‘3666’.
The man later explained that the number ‘0725’ was the number of the hotel room he stayed in during a family vacation in Thailand, while ‘3666’ was a rearranged version of a family member’s car plate number.
This prize is enough for me to pay off all my debts and start my own business. I will also donate part of the winnings to charity, as a way to give back to society,” he said.
As for the remaining 10 winning tickets, it were part of the House Share System Bet (HSSB), which allows players to buy shared combinations for a collective chance to win.
According to one of the HSSB winners, he said the entire company chipped in to pool funds for the ticket, with their boss contributing the most.
“He has since promised to use the winnings to organise a luxurious company trip for all the staff,” he added.
A Da Ma Cai spokesperson told Sin Chew Daily that the jackpot had accumulated from RM10 million to RM35 million over more than a month.
“Although the jackpot rollover effect comes into play when Jackpot 1 exceeds RM30 million, it was not activated this time due to a Jackpot 1 winner emerging.
“Under the jackpot rollover effect, if Jackpot 1 exceeds RM30 million with no winner, but there is at least one Jackpot 2 winner in the same draw, then the effect is triggered, with RM20 million being deducted from Jackpot 1 and added to Jackpot 2.
“As such, Jackpot 2 winners will share over RM10 million in prize money,” the spokesperson explained.
