Yesterday, we reported of a shocking incident where an elderly man was caught on camera dragging a 4-month-old puppy behind his motorcycle in Sungai Petani, Kedah.
Thankfully, a group of bystanders stopped the man and rescued the puppy, where it was later sent to a vet clinic for treatment.
Police: ‘He couldn’t remember what happened’
Not long after clips of the abuse went viral, police moved into action and arrested the 82-year-old man in front of a house in Bandar Puteri Jaya, Sungai Petani, at 8pm, reported NST.

Kuala Muda district police chief Assistant Commissioner Hanyan Ramlan said the man was brought to the police station for questioning, where initial investigations revealed he suffered from dementia.
He added that when asked why he dragged the puppy behind his motorcycle, the man claimed he “could not recall why he did so”.
The man also said he only came to realise what he had done when he was stopped by bystanders. Police have since seized his motorcycle and a white helmet as evidence.

He was later released on police bail due to his age and medical condition and was found to not have a criminal record nor tested positive for drugs.
Case probed for animal abuse
As for the dog, Hanyan said it’s currently being treated and will be handed over to the Veterinary Services Department once treatment is completed.

The case is being investigated under Section 428 of the Penal Code for mischief by killing or maiming an animal, which carries a jail term of up to three years, a fine, or both upon conviction.
