Most of us would not think of walking far distances, especially given how hot the weather is in Malaysia.
For a man named Roodran however, he decided to embark on a journey all the way from KL to A’ Famosa in Melaka by foot — a distance which covered a whopping 159km!
M’sian man walks from KL to Melaka in 1 week
In a lengthy Twitter thread, Roodran wrote that he randomly made the decision to wake up one day and leave his house in Damansara Utama and set out for A’ Famosa on foot with nothing but the clothes on his back and a laptop bag.
Whenever he stopped to take a break or to spend the night, he would describe the natural sights that Malaysia had to offer, particularly the majestic mountains.
These mountains have watched many millions of humans live, breathe, fight, and die. And yet they still stand. Now they get to see one small man walk a hundred miles.
In the thread, he also described the numerous times kindhearted Malaysians tried to give him a lift to Melaka, something which he is deeply grateful for.
Wanted to do something out of the ordinary
Speaking to Weirdkaya, Roodran said he was tired of being the average simpleton and wanted to do something exceptional, such as walking from one state to another across a span of seven days.
He also added that somehow, he felt his journey was “divinely ordained”.
Though the task seemed impossible for most, the one thing that kept him going was his poetic perspective of life, which makes every adversity seem smaller than it is.
So no matter how hard things got, I just told myself that my will is like iron, forged in the heart of stars. And I kept going.
Roodran also explained that the hardest aspect of his journey was focusing on his end goal as he faced exhaustion and distractions along the way.
“There were times where I asked myself, ‘What would this person think? What would that person think?‘ It definitely wasn’t easy to knock away the distractions and get my focus back on the goal at hand.
After more than 150km and seven days worth of walking, here’s how Roodran describes his feeling beholding the very sight of A’Famosa Fortress:
Relief, more so than happiness. I was happy that it was finally over, after a week on the road. The happiness did come later, in slow pulses rather than one huge wave. I could enjoy it slowly
He added that he can now slowly enjoy this happiness while knowing that this isn’t the end for me; rather it’s just the beginning.
Praised for his persistence
In the comment section, netizens were amazed by Roodran’s resilience and commended him for pushing through with his journey.
