A Malaysian man has sparked online discussion after sharing his dilemma about his father’s request to use his name to take out a car loan for the family.
According to mStar, the man explained that his father wanted him to apply for a vehicle loan under his name, with the assurance that the monthly instalments would be paid together as a family.
According to the man, his father’s reasoning was that it would be more convenient for future plans, as the car registered under his name could later be used by him after marriage, while his father would then purchase another vehicle.
However, the man admitted that the arrangement left him feeling uneasy, especially since the loan would be a long-term financial commitment.

He added that he had previously voiced his concerns to his father, explaining that he was hesitant to commit to a car loan as his job situation was not stable.
Despite this, his father reportedly reassured him that he would be able to cover the repayments if needed.
The man said he had already declined the request once, but his father continued trying to convince him, leaving him unsure how to respond without causing tension within the family.
Turning to the public for advice, he asked whether others would agree to such an arrangement, saying he was struggling to find an answer that would satisfy both himself and his father.
The post quickly drew attention, with many netizens cautioning him against putting his name on a loan that he may ultimately be responsible for.
Some advised him to prioritise his own financial future, warning that even verbal promises could fall apart if circumstances change, such as job loss or unexpected expenses.
Others suggested that if his father was confident about managing the repayments, the loan should be taken under his father’s own name instead.
