A 30-year-old local man tried to bust his way out after robbing a gold store in spicy fashion in Langkawi.
However, his escape attempt was thwarted when members of the public and police managed to stop him in time.
Threw chili powder at worker
According to a report by The Star, the robbery took place around 11.48pm today (June 19) at a goldsmith shop located at Jalan Pandak Mayah 5.
Langkawi district police chief Assistant Commissioner Shariman Ashari said the suspect wore a face mask and threw chilli powder at one of the employees upon entering the shop.

After that, he proceeded to smash the display glass with a machete and grabbed a quantity of gold jewellery before fleeing.
Arrested on the same day
Shariman said the suspect tried to run but got chased down by members of the public.
Thanks to their combined efforts with the police, the suspect was eventually subdued and arrested.

“Initial investigations revealed the stolen jewellery was worth about RM50,000. The case is now being investigated under Sections 392 and 397 of the Penal Code for robbery and armed robbery,” he said.
