M’sian Man ‘Takes Over’ Grab Ride In Thailand After Driver Keeps Making The Wrong Turn

Fine, I'll do it myself.
A Malaysian holidaying in Thailand took matters (or in this case, his ride) into his own hands after the elderly Grab driver couldn’t seem to make the correct turn.

The hilarious incident has since gone viral on his Instagram account, where it racked up over 51,000 likes since it was first posted last Tuesday (Oct 21).

5-minute ride turns into 20-minute confusion

In the caption, the OP named Clifford wrote that what was supposed to be a five-minute ride quickly descended into a 20-minute affair which he now considers to be “one of the funniest rides I’ve ever had.”

Speaking to WeirdKaya, Clifford said the incident took place during his vacation in Hatyai, where he booked a Grab motorcycle ride in order a to catch a train back to Malaysia.

He added that although the Grab driver had the navigation app mounted on his motorbike and that it showed where the next turn was, the latter somehow managed to miss it at every turn (pun not intended).

I thought he wanted to take a short cut cause he seemed to know his town really well. When we were on the highway, I checked the map and realised we were way off track.

“I used Google Translate to tell him I was rushing to catch the train and even pleaded with him to use the map,” he said.

Passenger becomes the driver instead

But as the journey progressed, Clifford realised he was nowhere near his destination and had no choice but to switch roles with the Grab driver.

“After I took over, he was relieved but was slightly afraid when I throttled the motorbike quite hard and kept telling me to slow down.

“Thankfully, I managed to catch the train and the only difficult part for me was explaining to my friends how I got myself into this situation,” he said with a laugh.

As for the clip, Clifford revealed that his girlfriend suggested posting it on his account after he shared it with her via WhatsApp.

“At first, I posted as an Instagram story. Then it got so much reaction that time and my girlfriends encouraged me to post it as a reel. It was the best advice ever.

“Every day I wake up and I see other platforms sharing my experience. know it’s funny but I really don’t understand what is it that made it so viral,” he added.
