A couple running a home-based pet boarding centre in Sri Petaling, Kuala Lumpur, recently took to social media to criticise a man of abandoning his pet poodle, Chewy before going off the grid completely.
The heartbreaking incident was shared in an Instagram post, where the couple detailed the events that led up to the dog being left behind.
Didn’t pay 50% deposit, claimed he was waiting for salary
In the post, the couple said the Chewy’s owner, a man named Jason, had booked for boarding from July 25 to Aug 4. However, he didn’t pay the 50% deposit as he claimed he was waiting for his salary.
Trusting that he wouldn’t renege on the deposit, the couple took Chewy in “on trust basis” on July 25.

Three days later, the couple reached out to Jason again to remind him on payment but noticed the WhatsApp messages sent to him only had one tick.
Their worst fears eventually proved to be true when Jason didn’t turn up on Aug 4 to take Chewy home and couldn’t be contacted. At that point, it dawned on them that Chewy was most likely abandoned.
Contacted man’s ex-gf, colleague, & mother
The couple then began searching for Jason’s profile on social media but couldn’t find anything. They later found an Instagram profile for Chewy and reached out to Jason’s ex-girlfriend, who was handling the account.
According to her, she and Jason had parted ways a year ago and said Chewy had been under Jason’s care ever since. She also gave the couple the contact number of Jason’s colleague and mother to help them in tracking him down.

The colleague told the couple that Jason had resigned from his job a month ago, while Jason’s mother claimed she didn’t know where her son went and gave “inconsistent and suspicious” answers.
With no choice left, the couple lodged a police report in order to protect both themselves and Chewy in the event something untoward occurs during the adoption process.

Chewy now up for adoption
The dog has since been brought to a vet for a health check-up and is now up for adoption, with multiple messages flooding the boarding centre’s inbox from interested parties.
The couple also thanked the public for showing their support and promised to provide updates on Chewy’s adoption process.
Speaking briefly to WeirdKaya, the couple said they were in sheer disbelief when they realised Jason wouldn’t be coming back for Chewy anymore.

We could not and still can’t believe that someone would abandon their dog like that. We were shocked, angry and sad.”
When asked how many people have reached out and express interest in adopting Chewy, the couple said “it was way too many to count.”
They also said they hoped the post would make others think twice when it comes to owning a pet.
“Your pet is not an object that can be discarded when it’s inconvenient. It’s a life, a family member that depends on you and trust you for their livelihood.
“It is also illegal to abandon pets in Malaysia. If you are unable to care for your pet, at least find another suitable home for your pet to continue to be cared and loved for.”
