While most people would be thrilled to receive their salary bonus, one Malaysian man says it’s nothing but a reminder of how little control he has over his own money.
Recently, a Malaysian man confessed that he couldn’t enjoy his hard-earned bonus because it all went into paying off his wife’s debts.

In a confession anonymously shared through X user @meinmokhtar, the man opened up about the financial toll marriage has taken on him.
According to the man, ever since tying the knot, he’s never had the chance to spend his annual bonus on himself.
Instead, the money goes straight into clearing his wife’s credit card debts and funding her wants, from makeup and handbags to personal travel.
Any thoughts of rewarding myself were just wishful thinking,” he said.
From the way he tells it, he’s never even gotten to enjoy a proper treat with the bonus money, let alone set any aside for savings or investment. It all went towards fulfilling his wife’s lifestyle.
Netizen shared their thoughts
The post has since gone viral, and netizens have shared their thoughts.
One person questioned the wife’s role in the household finances:
Does your wife not work? Normally women buy things like makeup and clothes themselves, unless it’s a birthday or anniversary gift from the husband.”

Another offered a more balanced approach:
When you get a bonus, settle my debts first. Then, give equal amounts of cash to yourself and my wife. The rest, invest in ASB or buy physical gold.”

Others were more critical of the husband himself.
I think you’re not in control of your household finances — and that’s the first sign of trouble,” one user pointed out.
