A man who couldn’t resist the urge to pinch a woman’s cheek was fined by the Parit magistrates’ court today.
Aside from the fine, he was also given an earful by the judge for failing to keep his hands to himself and embarrassing his family with his actions.
M’sian man pinches woman’s cheek without her consent
According to Utusan, 63-year-old Samsuri Kamaruddin committed the offense at a grocery store in Perak Tengah on Sept 5.
Based on the case facts, the 23-year-old woman was paying for her items at the counter when Samsuri touched her left cheek twice before pinching it, an act he deliberately carried out despite being scolded by the woman.
Following the incident, the woman was so traumitised that she was afraid to go to work.
Fined RM2,500 & lectured by judge
In court, Samsuri pleaded guilty to a charge of outraging the woman’s modesty under Section 354 of the Penal Code, which carries a 10-year jail term, a fine, or both upon conviction.
Before being sentenced, he was schooled by Magistrate Nurul Izalina Rajaai for behaving inappropriately.
“The court wishes to explain that this (touching of the woman) is wrong. It is wrong for you as an adult and a senior citizen. Everyone has acquaintances, but we must maintain boundaries.
“When with anyone who is not our mahram, we should not touch their cheeks, hands or any part of the body. What you did not only outraged the modesty of the victim but also brought shame to your own family,” she said.
Samsuri was handed a RM2,500 fine in default of six months’ jail. He paid the fine on the spot.
