As widely known, the new diesel price has been raised to RM3.35 per litre compared to the old price of RM2.15 per litre. Naturally, this issue has garnered a lot of reactions from people who are affected by this price increase.
Many have also expressed their disappointment with the price hike on social media. This includes an individual who shared his shock after refuelling his vehicle with diesel, revealing the significant impact of the price increase.
Diesel bill jumped from RM130 to RM210

Through a video on the TikTok account @pakwee_oe, a user shared his experience while refuelling at a gas station. The video captures his surprise and dismay at the current diesel prices, which have risen sharply compared to before.
“It’s truly a nightmare for all cars that use diesel. Usually, I fill up the tank for just RM130; after this, I’m definitely switching to petrol,” he remarked in the video.
The video shows the price on the screen quickly climbing to RM210.

The user continued, “For my car, a Mitsubishi Triton VGT, I used to fill the tank for RM130, but this time a full tank cost RM210.70. More than RM80 extra per tank, damn.”
He also hoped that the government’s targets are accurate and that prices of goods do not rise as a consequence of the fuel price hike.

He concluded with a note of resignation: “I’m switching to a petrol car after this. I can’t take it.”
Here’s what government says about the price hike
In response to the public’s outcry, the government has highlighted the economic benefits of the new pricing structure.
According to officials, the diesel subsidy targeting implemented from yesterday has resulted in savings of up to RM8 billion. These savings are intended to be redirected to benefit the public, primarily through cash assistance programs.
Improvements in various essential services
The government estimates that approximately RM4 billion saved from the diesel subsidy targeting will create broader fiscal space, allowing for improvements in various essential services.
To alleviate the pressure of unsubsidised diesel prices, the government has introduced the BUDI MADANI assistance program, providing RM200 to affected individuals. This assistance is expected to cover diesel expenses for a journey of approximately 70 kilometres, at a rate of five litres per day.
