He admitted to pawning the victim's jewellery to fund his way to the match.
A local woman in Sarawak who went missing for 10 days was found in a decomposed state inside in a drain in Tabuan Jaya last Sunday (Dec 15).

Adding on to the gruesome case was the reason for the cold-blooded murder, where the suspect revealed the chilling reason why he committed the act.

Was missing since Dec 5

According to NST, the victim, 26-year-old Nurul Asikin Lan, was reported to have gone missing after she followed a man she had just met on Dec 5.

A deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) test was then conducted and police later confirmed that the body was that of Nurul Asikin’s.

On the same day Nurul Asikin’s body was found, police nabbed a 23-year-old suspect who later proved to be the key to unravelling the cause for her death.

According to Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mancha Ata, he said the suspect confessed to the murder and said the reason why he killed Nurul Asikin was because he was desperate to catch a Harimau Malaya match during the 2024 Mitsubishi Electric Asean Cup in Cambodia on Dec 8.

He admitted to taking the victim’s jewellery — specifically a gold bracelet and earrings — to pawn for money. He needed the funds for his expenses while attending the football tournament in Cambodia.

“After detaining the suspect and conducting thorough investigations, he confessed to the crime. He also led us to the location where the victim’s body was discarded, which led to the discovery of the decomposed remains,” he said.

Mancha added that based on the evidence gathered by police, he believes the case is close to being solved.

The suspect currently remains in remand until Dec 22.
