It is not every day that you come across a ‘Duit Raya’ note from nearly three decades ago, especially one gifted by a former Prime Minister.
Recently, a Malaysian man, Syamil Shuib, shared a fascinating story on TikTok, @syamil.shuib, about how he has kept a rare RM3 duit Raya given to him by Dr Mahathir Mohamad 29 years ago.
His video quickly went viral, capturing the interest of many.
In the clip, Syamil showcases a rolled-up piece of paper containing 10 sen coins worth RM3, still in immaculate condition after all these years.
His attachment to the keepsake impressed netizens, who praised his dedication to preserving the memory.
A precious memory with Tun Mahathir
To make the story even more special, Syamil later shared an old photograph of himself as a child.
Dressed smartly in a blue baju Melayu and songkok, he stood in front of Dr Mahathir, who was clad in pink traditional attire.
The nostalgic image brought back memories of a time when meeting the former Prime Minister during festive celebrations was a cherished experience for many.
