A Malaysian driver was arrested at Woodlands Checkpoint after authorities found a large number of e-vaporisers hidden inside his vehicle.
At around 11am yesterday (Aug 27), Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) officers at Woodlands Checkpoint stopped the Malaysia-registered van for further checks, where it was said to be transporting air-conditioning equipment and spare parts.
More than 890 e-vaporisers found
In a Facebook post by ICA, officers discovered several e-vaporisers hidden inside boxes placed in the van during initial checks.

After a more detailed inspection, they found additional e-vaporisers concealed inside an air-conditioning unit and its internal components.
To assist with the operation, the Police K-9 unit was deployed to help search the vehicle further.
Eventually, officers uncovered more e-vaporisers and related components stashed in several compartments of the van.

In total, ICA recovered more than 890 e-vaporisers and about 6,700 components related to vaping products.
The driver, a Malaysian man, was immediately arrested at the scene.
The case has since been referred to the Health Sciences Authority (HSA) for further investigation.

ICA reminded the public that border security is key in Singapore’s fight against illegal e-vaporisers and stressed their commitment to keeping the nation’s borders safe and secure.
Under Singaporean law, those who import prohibited tobacco products into the country face fines, while transport companies and drivers may face possible prosecution.
Upon conviction, foreigners offenders will then be deported after serving their time and barred from entering Singapore again.
