Witnessing and caring for a family member who is suffering from a devastating illness is exhausting and can take a toll on the caregiver’s mental health.
A woman recently took to social media and made a shocking claim against her stepfather, who not only didn’t assist in caring for her sick mother, but also allegedly looked to take control of her assets.
Shocked by legal notice
In an anonymous posting shared on X (formerly Twitter), the woman wrote that her mother was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer and that she took unpaid leave to care for her mother.
She also said that all of her mother’s money was solely used to purchase necessities for her and that she personally didn’t take a single cent.
Her stepfather, who was nowhere to be seen throughout this time, suddenly made an “appearance” by filing a legal notice to stake his claim to her mother’s assets.
Needless to say, she was shocked and hurt by his actions.
My heart is shattered. My mother hasn’t even passed away yet. Every day I cry watching her suffer in pain while just waiting for time to pass.”
‘Name and shame!’
Netizens were also repulsed by the stepfather’s apparent show of greed and bashed him in the comment section.
‘Let your stepfather’s name and photo go viral. Perhaps he will become ashamed and rescind the legal notice.’
‘I hope you’ll find a lawyer who can help you arrange a hibah (asset gifting). What a useless man. He married (her) just for her possessions.’
Others advised the woman to keep every receipt of purchases she made while caring for her mother so that she could mount a defense against her stepfather’s legal notice.
