Tragedy struck yesterday afternoon (June 17) after a local man plunged from the 7th floor of the Kuantan Hospital, resulting in his death.
Investigations later revealed that he had a troubled mental health history, which police believe was the main factor behind his demise.
M’sian man falls to his death from 7th floor of hospital
In a statement by Kuantan District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Wan Mohd Zahari Wan Busu, he said the 44-year-old victim was admitted to a ward on the 7th floor after showing symptoms of hyponatremia (low sodium levels).

“At 5.10pm, a visitor witnessed the victim wandering along the ward’s balcony. As he approached the balcony, he saw the victim jumping off and immediately alerted hospital staff.
“A head nurse who was on duty at the 7th floor ward rushed downstairs after receiving the report from the witness and found the victim lying face down on the ground, with blood visible on his head.
“The victim was then rushed to the emergency room but was pronounced dead at 5.25pm,” he said as reported by Sin Chew Daily.

Had a history of mental illness
Mohd Zahari said the victim’s family told police that the victim had previously been married but was divorced and had no children.
He also added that the family revealed the victim had been suffering from mental illness for the past 13 years, where he was admitted multiple times to the psychiatric ward of Kuantan Hospital due to hallucinations and had shown suicidal tendencies.
Medical records also showed he was still receiving monthly psychiatric injections up to the point of his death.
