While most customers would adhere to the practice of paying for their meal, some may look to take advantage by coming up with excuses or blatantly walk right out from the door.
A man was recently caught trying to “dine and dash” his way out at a restaurant in Semenyih but his plan was ultimately foiled by staff who managed to stop him in time.
Tried to leave RM242 bill unpaid
In a Facebook post shared by the restaurant on July 9, it wrote that the man came by for dinner and ordered several items.
According to the bill, he ordered curry seafood, Kung Pao-style stir-fried frog, Kam Heong stir-fried mud crab, three cans of beer, and a bowl of white rice, bringing the amount to RM241.80.

However, when the time to pay up came, the man attempted to leave the restaurant without paying a single cent, prompting staff to stop him and contact the police.
Allegedly a serial offender
The restaurant owner later told Sin Chew Daily that the man’s modus operandi would be to order food and claim he was waiting for a friend while eating before skipping out on payment.
The owner also claimed this wasn’t the man’s first rodeo and had carried out the same tactic at other places.

“After calling the police, the man was asked to provide his IC and contact details of his family members, but he was unable to provide any of them at the time.
“The police managed to reach his ex-wife and it was revealed that he had cut all ties with his family members.
“The man later contacted a friend at the police station to help pay for the meal, and as a result, the police dropped the charges against him,” explained the owner.
Aside from food, many have also tried to escape paying for car upgrades too:
