A 47-year-old Malaysian man was killed after he allegedly drove his car into Sungai Panchor in Johor yesterday (Oct 13).
China Press reported that the incident occurred at around 2.30pm, with witnesses saying that the Proton Saga fell into the river after the victim reportedly stepped on the accelerator by accident.
One of the witness recalled hearing the sound of the engine being revved up and was shocked to see the car submerged in the river and slowly sinking further into the waters, prompting him to call the authorities.

Rescuers from the Fire and Rescue Department immediately rushed to the scene to save the victim trapped inside the car.
Victim found after 12-hour search
Unfortunately, the victim, identified as Mud Husni Mahmud, was found dead inside the car when it was finally pulled to shore at around 1am using a crane — nearly 12 hours after search and rescue (SAR) operations were launched.

Pagoh Fire and Rescue Station Operations Commander Nor Alfatah Omar said the Water Rescue Unit (PPDA) located the car about 50 meters from the riverbank at a depth of 15 meters at 10.21pm before moving to bring it to shore, reported Harian Metro.
The victim’s body was then handed over to the police for further action and the SAR operation ended at 1.38am.
