Grief is deeply personal and individuals cope with it in various ways. Some channel their sorrow into positive actions, finding solace in creative expressions or community engagement, while others may struggle.
Recently, a video on TikTok posted by @mizalgadgethq showed a man who chose to dress up as the beloved cartoon character Doraemon to bring joy to children – a gesture which was actually deeply rooted in personal loss.
Coping with grief through joy
In the video, the man, affectionately known as “Abang Doraemon,” shared that after the passing of his son, he sought a way to cope with his grief.
By being the Doraemon mascot, he found solace in interacting with children, allowing him to feel connected to his late son.
He explained that while in costume, he could embrace and play with other children, actions that might be misunderstood if he were in regular attire. This unique approach not only provided him comfort but also spread happiness among the youngsters he entertained.
I wanted to do something that connected me to him, something that would allow me to share the love I felt for him, even though he was no longer here.”
Doing charity with his earnings
But Abang Doraemon’s journey wasn’t limited to just his personal healing. With a heart full of gratitude and a deep understanding of the importance of community, he extended his kindness beyond the children he entertained.
According to him, he took the opportunity to use his newfound joy and purpose to give back to those in need by quietly using his earnings to help fund local tahfiz schools.

In the comment section, netizens couldn’t help but feel pitiful for ‘Abang Doraemon’ and offered him words of encouragement.
