However, the loan sharks claim RM70,000 in interest is still being owed to them.
Desperate to get out of her financial woes after falling prey to a forex scam, a 22-year-old Malaysian woman turned to not one, but 17 loan sharks for help.

However, it proved to be a colossal mistake as now not only her family is being terrorised by the loan sharks, but her elderly father also had to fork out a chunk of his life savings to bail her out.

After investing RM800 and receiving a RM500 return, she was persuaded to pour more money into it, which led her pouring her entire savings of RM9,000 into it.

However, she was later told that she had to pay an hefty “processing fee” before she could withdraw the full amount.

I didn’t tell my family and instead borrowed a total of RM20,000 from 17 different loan sharks to pay the fee.

“I couldn’t repay the debt as I just graduated two months ago and was still unemployed. My family only came to realise what had happened when the loan sharks began threatening and extorting them,” she said

Determined to put an end to the loan sharks’ constant harassment, Leong’s 61-year-old father took out RM150,000 from his life savings to settle his daughter’s debts.

Unfortunately, that didn’t satiate the loan sharks, who claimed that Leong still owed them RM70,000 in interest alone.

“At 11am on Wednesday (May 28), the loan sharks sent me photos of our new and old homes, as well as our cars. They also sent photos of my wife’s and two daughters’ IC while threatening to harm my family.

“Although we’ve lodged a police report, the loan sharks are still continuing their threats even when the investigating officer spoke to them,” he said.

China Press also reported that during the press conference, the loan sharks made a threatening call to Leong’s dad, where they accused him of “disrespecting” them.
