Breast cancer is a devastating disease that slowly eats away at the patient as the cancer cells spreads itself throughout the body.
Unfortunately for one woman in Terengganu, instead of getting emotional support from her husband, she found herself being divorced after she went against his wishes by having a surgery to treat her breast cancer.
Diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer
Sharing her heartbreaking story with Harian Metro at the  Family Support Division’s Ceremony of Advanced Nafkah Aid organised by the Terengganu Syariah Courts, the 54-year-old woman said she was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer.
Following the diagnosis, the doctor advised her to undergo surgery, specifically a mastectomy, to remove one of her breasts in order to curb the spread of the cancer cells.
However, the doctor’s advice was met with fierce opposition by the woman’s husband, who insisted that she turn to traditional methods of treatment instead.

Despite her husband’s protests, the woman heeded her doctor’s suggestion and underwent the surgery to remove her breast as she felt saving her life was more important.
When her husband caught wind of what she did, he became extremely angry and filed for divorce.
Before the divorce, he once told me that those who suffer from breast cancer like me can only live for a year. However, I’ve been a cancer survivor for the past seven years.
“For me, fate, death, and destiny are determined by God himself. Seven years since the surgery, I am still alive,” she said.
However, she admitted that the stress caused by the pressure from her now ex-husband led to suffer a variety of health issues such as depression, joint problems, and emotional stress.
Now lives a more peaceful life
Reflecting back on her tumultuous marriage, the woman said she was saddened to see that her ex-husband never offered emotional support during her struggle with breast cancer.
“Now, I consider myself to have escaped from hell because I made a mistake in sharing my life with the wrong person,” she said.
Today, the woman is now living a more peaceful life with her second child and is currently seeking alimony from her ex-husband.
