Fed up and afraid for his family’s safety after relentless harassment by loan sharks, a man made the heartbreaking decision to cut all ties with his son who was responsible for the mess.
This comes after he endured two years of loan sharks pelting his Taiping home with red paint, stinky tofu, and adhesives and has also received multiple death threats.
Harassed for 2 years, lodged 7 police reports
Speaking at a press conference held at the Pokok Assam state assemblyperson Ong Seng Guan’s service centre, 72-year-old Ma Qingzhi (transliteration) said his son had been working outside of the home for years, where he previously worked as a chef in Kuala Lumpur and Bukit Mertajam.

However, he also had a gambling habit that he couldn’t break, leading to mounting debts and his family draining their savings just to bail him out until they couldn’t do it anymore.
Ma said since 2023, the family have been harassed by the loan sharks on seven separate occasions, with the most recent one taking place on July 11 of this year.
“The interior and exterior of our house has been damaged by paintballs, red paint, stinky tofu, and strong adhesives. Cleaning them up was difficult and neighbours have complained about the foul smell.
“Our phones were also flooded with threatening messages warning us that if the debts are not settled immediately, they (the loan sharks) will escalate the harassment and resort to throwing rotten duck eggs,” he said.

Ma added he had lodged a total of seven police reports since the harassment began and is pleading with the loan sharks to leave the family alone.
M’sian man disowns son publicly
In an attempt to send the message to the loan sharks that he was innocent, Ma carried two placards which read: “I want to sever ties with my son; his life and death has nothing to do with us. To all the loan sharks, please go after him and stop harassing innocent people.”
He also slammed his son’s cowardice and selfishness, which have led to the family being terrorised by loan sharks over his debts.

Ma also revealed he had given the address of his Taiping home to his son six years ago, but never imagined the latter would use it to borrow money.
When the harassment began two years ago, I angrily confronted my son and told him he was better off dead. But he chose to run instead of facing the situation.”
The assistant of the Pokok Assam service centre, who was also present, called upon the police to provide updates on the case and ensure Ma’s family remains safe.
He also told loan sharks to not harass innocent parties but to instead go after the debtors themselves.
