A man was left shaken after stumbling upon a human skeleton in his late father’s oil palm plantation at Sungai Air Tawar, Sabak Bernam.
Found while tying oil palm bunches
Hakimi Hendra Salleh, 28, said he noticed something strange around 10.30 am yesterday (July 23), while tying oil palm bunches in the plantation located along Jalan Saring Tebuk Jawa, Selangor.
I then saw a strange object resembling a rotting and almost disintegrating skeleton on the ground,” he told Sinar Harian.
He initially thought it was an animal carcass, but upon a closer look, he realised it was a human skull and a decaying skeleton lying on the ground.
“The smell wasn’t that strong, only when I got closer did it become noticeable,” he said.
Alerted the police immediately
Hakimi, who works as a security guard, immediately informed the police and the other villagers about the discovery.
He was met by reporters at Kampung Sekendi and said the garden, which spans over 0.4 hectares, used to be tended by villagers after his father passed away more than three years ago.
It was earlier reported that the garden is about one kilometre from the main road.
Couldn’t sleep after the incident
Hakimi, the sixth child among ten siblings, admitted that this was his first time encountering something so terrifying.
He even admitted to not being able to sleep after the discovery.
I was still so shocked that I had trouble sleeping because I kept imagining the skeleton.”
More remains found in nearby bushes
Sabak Bernam District Police Chief, Superintendent Md. Yusof Ahmad, said that after forensic teams arrived at the scene, they found additional bones in nearby bushes.
These included parts of the spine, arm bones, and other skeletal remains, all of which were in an advanced state of decomposition.
The remains were sent to Tengku Ampuan Jemaah Hospital in Sabak Bernam for post-mortem.
Public urged to assist
Police have not found any indication of foul play and have classified the case as sudden death (SDR), pending a complete pathology report.
