On Oct 1, 2024, the government officially enforced the Public Health Smoking Product Control Act 2024 (Act 852), which prohibits one from smoking or vaping at public areas.
Unfortunately, not everyone takes the law seriously and continue to break the rules by smoking openly at prohibited areas.
M’sian man blows smoke at teen’s face over confrontation
In a 17-second video posted to the Malaysian subreddit, it showed a middle-aged man smoking away at a popular mamak restaurant in SS2.
After taking a huge puff at his cigarette, he then releases a stream of smoke towards an individual that wasn’t within the frame.

The camera then pans to the right, where it showed that the “victim” of the cigarette smoke was a male teenager sitting not far from the man.
In the background, the woman who was filming the entire incident exclaimed, “He purposely blew (the smoke) at you!”
According to the caption, the older man reportedly became upset when the teen confronted him for smoking at the mamak and decided to get back at him by blowing smoke right into his face.
Outrage
Needless to say, netizens didn’t take the older man’s actions too kindly and bashed him in the comment section.
‘Wow, my patience won’t let this go. Don’t care if he’s a Datuk or tai kor. Will make sure he swallows his whole packet of cigarettes.’

‘Smoking is bad enough but deliberately blowing it at someone else’s face is just asking to get punched…we should lock people like this inside a small unventilated booth with a lifetime supply of cigarettes!’

Others slammed the lack of enforcement from health authorities, saying it was the reason why some continue to flaunt the law.

Meanwhile, some said the older man’s arrogance and lack of respect was a triggering factor for why younger folks don’t see the need to respect their elders.

On a side note, if you do catch anyone smoking in public, you can lodge a formal complaint with MOH by following these steps.
