When neighbours saw the fire, they quickly rushed over to put it out and discovered Chen lying on the kitchen floor with severe burns all across his body.

A distress call was then made to the Port Dickson fire and rescue department at 8.50am, where a team arrived nine minutes later. By then, the fire had already been extinguished.

Preliminary investigations later revealed that the blaze’s origin was from cooking equipment in the kitchen, where a liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinder was found.

Thankfully, only 5% of the house was damaged by the fire, thus stopping the fire from spreading to three wooden terrace houses nearby.
