Too blinded by love?
For many, getting married is undoubtedly one of the most important events of their lives and it’s no surprise that tons of money is poured into celebrating the occasion.

A man, swayed by his future wife’s wish to have a lavish wedding, found himself taking out a hefty loan to fund it, only to find himself in a financial hole that he now struggles to get out from.

Fast forward to today however, it seemed that he bit off more than he can chew by borrowing such a huge sum of money as he’s now drowning in debt and is behind repayment by three months.

To further add on to his woes, the man claimed that his wife didn’t lift a finger in helping to alleviate his financial burden, adding that she doesn’t have a job and would spend hours scrolling through TikTok everyday.

He also seemed to acknowledged that his financial difficulties stemmed from the fact that he was too in love at the time to think things through, where he wrote that his misfortunes were “all because of love”.

Netizens express sympathy & backlash

In the comment section, the man’s story attracted mixed reactions from netizens, with some feeling sorry for him while others weren’t.

Some said the man had it coming as he failed to see the warning signs beforehand and let his emotions overshadow his common sense.

‘This isn’t love. It’s a one-sided feeling.’

‘I cannot brain this. Why is there a need to torture yourself for a grand wedding you yourself cannot afford to the point where you have to take out a personal loan?’

Meanwhile, one said the man’s story was a cautionary tale about the importance of choosing the right life partner.

‘Three years ago, I paid RM15,000 only for the dowry and wedding. My wife even has a Master’s degree. Be smart in finding a wife who is compatible with you, not one who’s ‘compatible’ with rich old men (even if they’re not really that great) as we will end up being the ones trapped.’
