M’sian Man Attacks Wife With Knife At Penang Home, Then Tries To End His Own Life

Both are now receiving treatment at the hospital.
A shocking incident unfolded at a house located in Sungai Ara, Penang, after a man attacked his wife with a knife early this morning.

Following the attack, the man then turned the knife on himself and grievously injured himself in an attempt to end his life.

According to China Press, the incident took place at around 6am at the couple’s home in Taman Tunas Muda.

Speaking to reporters gathered at the scene, Southwest district police chief Assistant Commissioner Sazalee Adam said the couple were teachers at Han Chiang Primary School.

He added the attack occurred during morning prayer time, when the victim’s mother heard her screaming from the bedroom and went upstairs to investigate, where she saw the suspect pinning the victim and attempting to slash her throat.

After attacking his wife, the suspect proceeded to slash his wrists and throat with the same knife. Both of them were later rushed to the Penang General Hospital for treatment.

No history of depression or marital issues

Preliminary investigations indicate that the couple, who share a child, have been married for six years and enjoyed a relatively harmonious relationship.

The suspect also had no record of suffering from any mental health issues or depression.

The case is now being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder, which provides for up to 10 years’ imprisonment and a fine, and up to 20 years if injury is caused.
