M’sian Man Allegedly Punches Wife For Not Helping To Unload Items When Car Broke Down

A 51-year-old Malaysian plumber found himself in court after he was accused of punching his wife for not helping him unload items when their vehicle broke down in Kedah last Sunday.

The accused, Lim Cheong Kait, was brought before the Magistrate’s Court today where the charge was read before Magistrate Kartini Karsan.

Right after the charge was presented, Lim pleaded not guilty to intentionally causing injury to his wife.

Incident happened on September 21

According to the charge sheet, the incident happened by the roadside near the junction of Taman Bukit Kepong Jaya at about 5.30pm on September 21.

The victim, who is also 51 years old, was allegedly punched after failing to help Lim unload items following their vehicle breakdown.

Charged under penal code

Reported by Harian Metro, he was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 326A of the same code.

Section 323 carries a penalty of up to one year in jail, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both. Section 326A allows for double the maximum punishment if convicted under Section 323.

The case was prosecuted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Yasmin Mohd Piah, while Lim appeared without legal representation.

During the hearing, the prosecution requested the court to set a new mention date and initially offered bail at RM10,000.

Next mention date set for October 20

After hearing the arguments, the court fixed October 20 for the submission of documents and the appointment of a lawyer.

Bail was later set at RM6,000, which was subsequently paid by Lim
