A lecturer’s role is often viewed with respect as they help shape young minds and guide students throughout their studies.
But for one Malaysian woman, a memory from her university days still stings more than a decade later.
She recently shared how a former female professor allegedly made a humiliating remark in front of her classmates, leaving her embarrassed and hurt.

Unexpected comment
According to the woman, the incident took place during her degree studies. The professor called her to stand at the front of the class and commented that she had a kind and innocent looking face.
The professor allegedly told her that people with innocent looking faces usually have bad behaviour.
To support her claim, she brought up a former student who also had a similar appearance but had become pregnant out of wedlock.
According to mStar, the woman said the entire class turned to look at her, making the moment even more uncomfortable.
Hurt by label over someone else’s actions
She shared that she could not understand why she was being linked to a stranger’s actions just because of her appearance.
She felt that it was unfair to label someone based on how they looked, especially when she had done nothing wrong.
The comment, she said, made her wonder whether her classmates would start seeing her differently after that.

Memory still lingers 11 years later
Although the incident happened about 11 years ago, she said the experience remains clear in her mind.
She questioned whether it was necessary for the professor to call her to the front of the class just to make such a remark.
She also added that she did not even know the former student who was used as an example.
