Yesterday, we reported of an explosion that claimed the life of one individual and left nine others injured at a private university in KL.
Following the harrowing incident, authorities moved quickly to investigate the cause of the explosion and conduct safety inspections to ensure the premise was safe.
Victim’s family in immense grief
According to China Press, the person who died in the explosion was a young man named Soo Yu Juan, who was undergoing his internship at the private university.
It also reported that Soo had just celebrated his 24th birthday two days before tragedy struck.

Soo’s mother and brother later received news of the incident and were seen arriving at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital morgue to identify the body.
After more than 10 minutes, they emerged from the morgue and proceeded to embrace one another as Soo’s brother broke down in tears, reported Sin Chew Daily.

Was about to complete internship
Meanwhile, Professor Dr Chang Yoong Choon, Head of the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) said Soo was in the final week of his three-month internship.
“The victim was pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering and was about to complete his industrial training this week.
“The university will handle the necessary documentation and file claims with the insurance company. We will also support the family with funeral arrangements,” he said as quoted by Sinar Harian.

While the real cause of the explosion has not yet been revealed, police say it originated from an air conditioning compressor in a maintenance area located beside the cafeteria on the fourth floor of the university building.
